Celiac Disease is an immune reaction to gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley and rye.

What Causes Celiac Disease?

The cause is still unknown.

Diagnosing Celiac Disease:

There are several blood tests that screen for very specific elements that indicate Celiac Disease. A diagnosis is usually confirmed with a biopsy of the lining of the small intestine — this occurs during the EGD procedure.

Treatment for Celiac Disease:

There is no medical treatment other than avoiding foods that contain gluten.
