Diarrhea is a common problem and often not serious. It is defined as frequent and liquid bowel movements.

What Causes Diarrhea?

The most common causes of diarrhea are viruses, bacterial infections, food allergies, food poisoning, medications, artificial sweeteners or alcohol abuse.

Treatment for Diarrhea:

There are simple lifestyle changes that you can make at the onset of diarrhea that can help control symptoms — avoid solid foods or try over the counter treatments like Pepto-Bismol, Kaopectate or Imodium.

When to Call Your Physician

We recommend calling our office if you have experienced diarrhea for more than two to three weeks.
