Diarrhea is a common problem and often not serious. It is defined as frequent and liquid bowel movements.
The most common causes of diarrhea are viruses, bacterial infections, food allergies, food poisoning, medications, artificial sweeteners or alcohol abuse.
There are simple lifestyle changes that you can make at the onset of diarrhea that can help control symptoms — avoid solid foods or try over the counter treatments like Pepto-Bismol, Kaopectate or Imodium.
We recommend calling our office if you have experienced diarrhea for more than two to three weeks.
